  • Dickey Creek access

Hopeful that the weather man is right and this weekend will be nice. Wanted to know if anyone has info regarding trailhead access and trail conditions at Dickey Creek. Thanks and everyone pray for more sun!

Just to update, I spoke with the Ranger District and indeed the road to Dickey is blocked and will probably be blocked for the entire summer. Bummer! The detour is still blocked due to...yes, SNOW! ARGHH!!!!!!!!! Thanks for all the help. Keep those sun prayers coming.

  • I don't know for sure, but my guess is that due to the detour you'll have to take because of the 63 road failure that you won't be able to get to the trailhead yet.  I was up on the 45 road two weeks ago, and the snow stopped me about 3500'.  I'm pretty sure you'll have to go higher than that to get to the trailhead via the detour.  Hopefully someone else can give more current info.  Even if you couldn't make it, it would be a nice drive!  If you go, please post a note letting us know what the conditions were.

The Dickey Creek trail is one of my favorites (except for the really bad stretch at the beginning).

    • Does 6350 get past the block on 63?  I would come  that way from Detroit and it might be faster but it would require going over Rho ridge and that will be snowed in for awhile.  Looking at the map I see that 6370 dosn't go through past Orge creek, is that true?  I have never been that way.

      • I don't have a map handy at the moment, but here is a thread earlier this year, talking about the closure and detour.  I think that 6350 would get past the detour, though.

I just wish the snow would melt!

        • This year the only way to drive to Bull of the Woods, Pansy Lake, Dickey Creek and Elk Lake Creek (east) trail heads will require driving over Rhododendron Ridge. An extra hour or so of driving, once the snow allows which will likely be towards the end of the month or early July.
Adversity usually has it's benefit, discovery of new places to go, or different ways to get there. Bagby and Whetstone will be our only in-District wilderness entrances this year. You can go through Detrtoit or out of Opal Creek for entrances out of the Willamette National Forest.
The two hours spent driving can be five extra trail miles with a Bagby entrance.

        • Rob,
How did you go back to that thread, I tried by topic and chronological and it only gives me a short history to threads.

      • Bill,

6370 is indeed blocked by an old washout near Ogre Cr. The road has been pulled up so there is no way to get through.

  • It is very laborious and slow.....In the little calendar in the upper right part of the screen, it highlights each day that has posts for that month.  It shows the previous month and the next month in the footer of the calendar.  You click on the previous month, and then click on each day in the month that has posts looking for the thread you are trying to find.  I've found the easiest way to find if a particular thread is something you are looking for is to display all the messages in a thread by clicking in the header of the message. You just keep clicking, finding threads and going backwards, month by month until you find the one you are looking for.  I spent a couple hours a few weeks ago finding old threads that interested me and saving them, so I wouldn't have to go through that again.  I've requested a search function, and it is being looked at as a possibility for some future upgrade.
