  • Thanks for posting that link.  I haven't read the whole thing yet, but a lot of what I've read is really interesting.  It is more than just the typical impact report.  There is a lot of historical info in it.  Interesting to read how recently built a lot of the roads are....

    • For the most part, logging and roadbuilding didn't take part in the national forests until the 50s, and heavy timber harvest didn't really pick up steam until the late 60s and REALLY peaked in the 80s.  Crazy.  It makes sense when you view the forests as a resource (which is what they are), but it also discounts all the other values of wild lands...but thankfully points of view have really changed over the past 20 years and there is a greater focus on habitat, climate, forest structure etc.  I'm glad that people are starting to respect these beautiful places.  I always come back to the city more relaxed and complete after some time in the woods.
