  • Road 63 status

    I hadn't seen this before, so forgive me if you have seen it.  On one of the FS web pages, I saw the following note on road 63, and its status:

    Due to road failure, Road 63 at Little Fan Creek is closed.  Next summer, the access to the Bull of the Woods Wilderness Trails will be Rd. 46 to 4670 to 6350 to 63.  This is a 30 mile detour.  At this time, there is no date set to repair Road 63.

    So, it would appear as though 63 is closed for the forseeable future, probably similar to road 57, which was closed for several years.

    I'm not sure why they didn't choose 6310 to 6350 to 63, but my guess is the 6310 isn't in all that great of shape.  Anyone have any clue?

  • Perhaps their route is the lower pass. I think they are the better roads.

    For day trips, the additiional two hours of driving might make our other trails more interesting.

    There is some very difficult geology in the failure area.

    • If my memory serves me correctly, that is the area that just got repaved about two years ago, isn't it?

      It will definitely deter me from taking some of those trails, even though they are some of my favorites.
