"Brushwackers, a battalion of brushwackers. Even the PCT, which gets so much attention, is getting out of control."
I'd like to second this plea! Almost every trail I've hiked this summer needed brush trimming, and there's only so much 1 person can do. $10 garden shears work well for the small stuff, $30 Home Depot loppers work well for larger shrubs/small trees/rhododendrons. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately depending on your view of Forest Service politics), it's now up to us hikers to do the work, or the trails will be quickly swallowed up by the temperate jungle. It only takes a few years of neglect before a trail becomes difficult to follow; less time in the lower elevations and near water. This is very rewarding work. Nothing feels better than returning down a trail that was once a mess but is now a Zen path thru the woods.
