Hiked it yesterday, what a beautiful destination. I'm always surprised how much old growth that hasn't been officially "listed". Lots of new deadfall on the trail, spent considerable effort clearing the way. Amazing how much comes down in one season! The trail is in ok shape, but a couple big down trees block the trail about 1/2 way down. Very rugged, very remote. I'll bet it's quite pristine down that S. Fork canyon, I didn't see many logging roads on the map. Thanks for the info, I had a great (soggy) day.
Looking forward to April. Glad you folks changed the hike day to a weekend.
Thanks for the report. We'll try to get down there with the saws January. When the waters low, try exploring up the other side. Very untouched.
We are also aware of the 5' tree on Cripple Creek. The Forest Service is planning to get that one soon. It is too large and tricky for volunteers.
Hillock burn is now clear to near the bottom. There was a lot of blowdown this Winter. You'll need to climb around some root wads.
