Pacific Crest Trail it is, very close to Head Lake which in fact will be mostly screened by trees to the right as you climb up this short but steep incline. It is indeed just south of Head Lake and close to the small lot just short of the resort turnoff.

Okay, here's a new picture for the game.  My memory isn't great, so hopefully I haven't used this picture before. This trail has been abandoned for some time, I believe.

OK Kirk, you are going to have to give us a little more clue then that phoneline poking out of the bark on a tree. I can probably think of a dozen or two of abandoned trails that have such trees on them. So is this trail in a wilderness area?

You didn't even make a guess!  Ok, being the benevolent guy that I am, I'll give you one clue for every guess made. And even though you didn't make a guess -- here's your second clue:  This trail was very near a current road.

Oh, I just realized you asked a question in your post, no it's not in a wilderness area.
