Paul that segment looks to be part of the Old Baldy Trail #502 above Squaw Lakes, which, as far as I know, is still not in a wilderness area even with the new additions. Portions of the Old Baldy Trail, west of the 4614 road and east of Twin Springs are in new wildernesses, but that segment that photo was from and the Fanton Trail are out of wilderness boundaries.Don
That's right and looking at the district map closer I see that it is indeed out of the Salmon Huck wilderness thx for the correction.
You're up...

Here is a fresh photo from yesterday's outing on a current trail on a beautiful spring day out in the Clackamas country.

I'm having a hard time figuring out where that was taken. It looks like the Alder Swamp trail, but that isn't a current trail. The snow depth looks about right, but I can't think of any other trails that are level that would be low enough to hike.
Looks a little cold and dark for a beautiful Spring day.

It was a warm day in the sunshine. I believe the snow melted about an inch during my hike. The deepest I saw the snow at this location was about a foot deep when I was more out in the open. Underneath a thick canopy of old growth, as where the photo was taken, the snow was about 6 inches on average with some bare spots.
The trail is basically flat, gaining very little from one end to the other, maybe a couple hunderd feet. It was a perfect trail to snowshoe, which was what I was doing on this spring day. I only wish there was more snow, for I came across bare spots, but I really didn't want to drive up any further up the single tracks in the road that were getting deeper.
With the warmer weather we are now having, getting higher up the Clackamas River will be alot easier in the next weekend or two. Maybe I will get to use those snow shoes a few more times before I hang them up for the year.
