I think the road we hiked up was the 5420?  It is the one that came up wash creek, not fish creek.  If I remember the old maps, 54 came up the fish creek side.

There is certainly some beautiful areas in there.  And also some heavily cut areas, too.  It was definitely a highlight trip for me......

Rob, I think you've got them reversed. I believe 5420 was the Calico Road and Road 54 was the one that went all the way up Wash Creek.  The 1956 USGS map shows the Calico Road but it doesn't show the road going up Wash Creek. In 1956 the road along Fish Creek used to go up almost to Third Creek and then cross the creek and go north up the other side. I think that's where you showed me that bridge that I was too tired to go look at.

Kirk, as usual, you are correct.  I guess those road numbers didn't sink in in all the times I've looked at those maps.  It looks like 54 crossed the creek at the confluence and kept going up wash creek.  5440 continued down fish creek and 5420 was the Calico road.  So I guess we did go north on the old 54 road after all!
