According to the district "current conditions" page as of 1/21, the Dickey Creek trailhead was accessible.  Does anyone know if this is still true?  I would think so since we have continued to have warm weather and not much low elevation snow.  I'm taking a vacation day tomorrow (it is supposed to be nice) and am looking for a place to go.....

From http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mthood/conditions/ :

January 21, 2010

Road 46 to Detroit is not passable due to snow.

As of this date, many trailheads and trails are snow free and accessible.  In the BOW Wilderness, you can access Dickey Creek Trailhead, but this is the only trail the contractor did not clear of logs last fall.

So I'll be a little schizophrenic and answer myself.....

I went up to Dickey Creek today, and it was completely accessible.  I saw NO snow except for a tiny bit on the highest point I got to - about 3000'.  It wasn't much, just a few patches here and there.  I hiked to the creek crossing, had lunch and then turned around.  According to the FS website, this was one of the few trails in BoTW that didn't get sawed out last fall.  I counted about 30 trees between the trailhead and the creek crossing.  A couple of them were pretty big, but most of the rest were stepovers.  Only a few were difficult to get around.   I did a little brushing on the trail, but it needs more.  The huckleberries will hide the trail in spots once they sprout leaves.

It was a great day....

BTW, they have brushed both sides of the 6340 road and it looks GREAT.  Now if they could grade it a bit and add a little more rock, it would be a wonderful road.....
