Did the 7.5 mile out and back from Olallie Lake to Potato Butte. The trail was in very good shape - just a few blow downs and about 99% snow free. Interesting that the old write up from the Forest Service mentions that this is a very popular hike and to expect 50-300 people on the weekends. We saw 31 but 24 were from a boy scout group. So really, only about 7 hikers (and two were on the PCT). I wonder what has changed over the years, was this really a popular hike? Did we come on an off day? Way back when (probably the 50's), the Red Lake trail was part of the Skyline Trail (precursor to the PCT). Those trail notes were probably done in the 80's or 90's I'm guessing - Ive never seen a lot of people on that trail, though.
Quite a few from the top of the butte, though! Looks like it was a beautiful day!
