Spent the weekend up on the Old Bissell, Old Baldy, and Tumala Mtn Trails cutting out logs. All are clear except for a root wad just below Tumala Mtn (Squaw Mtn) access road at the old lookout site. I didn't have a come-along with me or I would have had it out of the way also. Still some patches of snow up by Tumala Mtn back in the trees on the north slopes. This is the middle of August, isn't it! The mosquitoes still think it is July, but flee when the sun does come out.
Here is a picture of the impediment on Tumala Mtn Trail:
That's pretty awesome. We may soon have to give you a Bull of the Woods pin.
Thank you Don.
I will accept the pin only if it matches my FS zipper pull, otherwise forget it.
I think maybe a better recognition system would be a beer for each tree cut out. Sounds fair to me. Maybe the FS could set it up with Fearless Brewery and handout wooden nickels good for one pint of the beer of your choice. We can dream can't we.
I don't mind the work, I just don't like carrying a chainsaw miles on end without the need to use it. We need someone to just hike the trails and do a survey locating where the logs are, instead of us going out there blind lugging our gear. We are down to about half the volunteers we used to have a couple of years ago.
Going into the weekend I knew I had at least 6 logs to cut in the new wilderness addition on the Old Baldy/ Bissell Trails for I hiked it last month, and was prepared with that knowledge in hand. I don't have the time, nor the desire, to hike all of the district's trails twice before the snows push us back down out of the mountains in the fall.
