Crap! That detour is a pain in the arse.
Forest Road 57 Closed Due to Rockslide
Date(s): Feb 20, 2013 - Mar 31, 2013
The Forest Road 57--"Oak Grove Fork Road"--with access to Timothy and Harriett Lakes is closed for the foreseeable future due to a major rock slide. The area around the rock slide is extremely dangerous due to 300-1,000 cubic yards of rock and soil material hanging just above the road which could lead to large amounts of material falling on the roadway.
The closure begins between the junction with RD 46 and the junction with RD 4630--"Harriet Lake Rd." During the closure, an alternate route to Timothy Lake, once it's gate is open this Spring, and Harriet Lake can be accessed by turning left onto forest road 4631 at Ripplebrook from Hwy 224, following the 4631 road 2.5 miles to the end of the road, and heading south on forest road 4630 for 3.4 miles to Harriet Lake or back 4.4 miles to RD 57. Please use caution on RD 4630 as it's a single-lane, gravel road with turn outs and will likely see increased traffic during the closure.
