I just tried to get a library card online, but I have to go in to actually get my card.  Is the stuff searchable/viewable via the web or do you need to do it all at a library?

I'm eager to take a look at it.  I saw your first posting on PH.org with the note about the Perdition Trail.  Pretty cool stuff, especially the full text search capability.

All searchable/viewable via the web through a nice responsive interface, so once you get your card and PIN you can surf away.

Do we have to get a Multnomah County library card or can we, who live in Clackamas County, access the Oregonian archives through the interlibrary system? I know back a few years ago we could access the Oregonian archives in Oregon City, but it was on microfilm rolls and you were the search engine, and you had to go through them page by page to find what you wanted. Fine if you don't have a day job or your eyes don't give out on you. I guess I will have to stop by my local library and find out.

I think (but I'm not positive) that you need a Multnomah County library card.  You can get one if you live in Multnomah, Clackamas or Washington counties.  I'm going to go get mine today I hope and then experiment with the back issues.  Looks like a major time waster....

Wow.  How cool is that!  I got my library card today and did some searching tonight.  I found the following articles:

Mt Jefferson article from 1921:

Fire in Fish Creek in 1956:

Not about this district, but an interesting "Outdoors In Oregon" from 1913:

Article from 1964 about the new Timber Lake Job Corps, and how they were going to build a bunch of trails (I think you will recognize some of the trails):

I can tell I am going to be wasting a lot of time on this site!!!!
