Thank you for the memory reboot. As I noted the trail was quite overgrown with Alder and nearly invisible the last time I passed that way. I sent a note to the Izak Walton league contact to see if they had any information but I don't expect to hear back from them. Most of the activity they had was midwest and east coast. Honestly I don't know anything about their charter. Some of their posts seemed to indicate shooting and fishing as their raisan de etat.
Interesting - I hopped the creek year before last when I was camping there with my daughter, although I just walked up the road for a while. The road is in sorry shape, but still walkable. The bridge was removed a while ago - you can see the remains of the bridge off to the side in a pile. At that time, I hopped the creek on a very large downed log. I would think it is still there. It was VERY big.
I don't think it was an old trail. There was also something about yew trees on it. I thought it was a fishing trail.
Now, the other thing possible, is what about the sign at Hideaway Lake? And the trail from the lake to the Shellrock trailhead. There is some explanation of something on that sign but I never payed attention to it. That was a private piece at one time that belonged to a sportsman's club. Seem to recall it was out of Eugene. Doesn't jive as well with his memory as it is a ways off the road, but . . .

Its so funny how quickly a trail can change with water damage and Alder tree growth. What was a good trail can be impassable in a year's time.
