So you actually found the trail to high lake from whalehead and hiked it?  This has been a obsession for me for over a year.  Can you tell me more?  

There isn't actual trail the whole way but there is a path along with some original tread.  The easiest way to find it is to go to High Lake from the Fish Creek Mtn trail and go around to the North end of the lake and poke around.  You will see tread that leads north.  Follow it as far as you can.  It is faint in spots and then enters cut areas and uses old roads, etc to make its way north.  I'm guessing there is about a mile and a quarter of original tread - the rest (probably a quarter to a half mile) is pieced together.

Thank you Rob!  When you came out at whale head where were you?  I have built a route on maps that seemed like it should run about 2 and a quarter miles or so, which sounds about the distance you describe.
