There is a landslide that took out part of the original trail.

By landslide you mean a big boulder about the size of a VW bug in the tread that you have to climb over, then I would say that you are on part of the Fish Creek Divide Trail that went from Whale Head in the north to East Mtn in the south. I think a recent spring exploration last week went on a portion of this very trail showing High Lake mostly covered in ice.

And Rob I believe that moniker "trails less traveled" is a description of the Clackamas River Ranger District and it's trails.

Oh yeah, it was the back door trail.  I thought for sure that viewpoint would have given it away.  Well only took a year to figure it out, I seem to have that affect on this game...

So you actually found the trail to high lake from whalehead and hiked it?  This has been a obsession for me for over a year.  Can you tell me more?
