Thanks for the tip on Bissell - I didn't know about that trail, but like to geek out on historical connections. I checked it out from the end of NF 4614 to 4615 and wondered if it's still possible to get through to Bissell itself these days as listed in the old Mt. Hood maps. At least 1 motorcycle has also checked out this particular segment recently, but I think they more or less helped clear it by blazing through.
As far as I know the segment from the existing trailhead to Bissell is no longer there, but that would be a good exploration trip for an experienced trail finder. there are all sorts of segments of old trails out there. Some in almost perfect condition - they just need to be found.
I'm wondering how much of the trail was lost to the road going in as well as logging. That end of 4615 seems popular with target shooters, but I'm going to get out there one of these days and see if it's possible to get over that ridge. I can see you can get very close on the satellite.
