Reading the Hidden Wilderness book I see mention of "1942 MHNF Trail Logs" (and other dates). Has anyone seen one of these, or know of availability? It would be a fascinating resource for some of our older or abandoned trails and probably provide a lot of insight.
Thanks just wonderin' over here.
I had never noticed those notes before. I would guess you'd probably have to go into the FS and root through a bunch of historical stuff - but those would be a real gem, I'm sure. That was when the FS rangers actually hiked the trails!
If you find something please let us know. I'd love to be able to scan them in and post them here.
Bob:
I've gotten in touch with a FS historian, and she said she has boxes of trail info in no particular order. I'm trying to setup a day in the beginning of August to go view the info. Let me know if you want to come along as well. (or if anyone else is interested). I'm pretty sure it will have to be mid week.

Hey Rob, I'm in, if possible, let me know when and where. Take a scanner.

I would be up for that too! But only if I'm not already stumbling around in the woods somewhere. Earlier the better in August.
I have a scanner, maybe with a laptop we could scan on the fly...but it's slow going.
Boxes of stuff? Is it part of a USFS collection, or private?
