Here's a link to photos and a brief narrative about a USFS field telephone from the 1920s. There's no way of knowing if this model was used in the Clackamas but it's an interesting look at the technology of the day.

This article does say that the FS employee who had this worked in several NW National Forests, including the Mt. Hood. I'm wondering if any of these ended up nailed up in cabins such as the one at Cache Creek or Hawk Mountain. Baty Butte was a lookout with never a structure built but it has the wire, so its likely it was a place one of these was used.

I stumbled across this link a few days ago. It has tons of info on the USFS phone system. A good way to burn several hours if you are interested.
